In cooperation with the University of Texas San Antonio, it is our ambition to support students and faculty in their pursuit of meaningful environmental research projects.
One such project is the Mesquite Outdoor Learning Laboratory Building at the Northwest corner of the campus. The building’s focus is to bring attention to Maverick Creek and the San Antonio River Authority’s “Best Management Practices”. Its “Butterfly Roof” collects rainwater in cisterns for slow release, thereby preventing disruption to planting materials. The bioswale gathers rainwater for irrigating various plants that thrive around the edges creating a meadow like surround. The laboratory’s conference room is actually a screened porch that allows natural cool breezes to replace air conditioning.
The introduction of solar powered lighting for parking and exterior decorative features is available to the University through our outreach ambitions.
